If you REALLY want a HTML editor very badly, the one from labs4.com is probably the easiest to install.

Labs4.com is one man's job. It is good. I did a translation for Labs4 and got the code for free and found out that you can get it working in a few minutes. I used it for a while.

But HTMLArea is a group product, and it is a little more sophisticated. It is worth the toil plowing through the HTMLArea's forum to get it working.

I like the features of the HTMLArea so I ended up coming back to it. I have posted my latest successful integration codes in here

I am curious how MS Visual Studio works? I have heard of the software but haven't yet had the chance to see what it is really for.

So you can plug it in as HTML Editor for GL, or create one with that?

Interesting, I will take a look when I have time.

it is ment as a c++ compiler but handles html and asp , and c#
Also it dose a great job on style.css in the layout
between Cygwin , Bloodshed's "devcpp " , and vs i use 3 compilers
but for html i found that vs .net dose a good job

I would only recomend it IF you nead a compiler that dose more
than c++
i would not shell out the cash for ONLY using it for html
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
for php /html i also use Dev-PHP IDE at https://sourceforge.net/projects/devphp/

No, it is not good - in my personal opinion. Wink
I consider any application that uses ActiveX - where it is definitely not required - junk. In most browsers, it doesn't work at all - in others it requires insecure settings. Sorry, the 4labs editor is junk. Evil or Very Mad

HTMLArea looks very promising but the last couple of versions I tried were a bit buggy - nothing major, however.
FCKeditor also seems to have potential but the same bug problem.

Hmm, I didn't realize the ActiveX issue with Labs4 editor. Thanks for pointing that out. I was comparing it to other editors that were much more difficult to install and use. I stopped using it because I needed an image manager and Lab4's one reveals all my other files when the user browse for an image.

I agree that the HTMLArea is buggy, but I can't live without it because my site users are html illiterate and would not post anything without an editor. So I had to spend a lot of time in their forum to find out the fixes and make it useful. Another important stuff for me is it has an Image-Editor plugin, that saves a great deal of time for the story and staticpages admin to create a page or article with images, enhancing the look of the site.

I am glad to know that there is potential. Until then, we just have to live with what we have now. The bad news is, Mishoo, the main author of the HTMLArea, just got married and it seems that the next release is postponed indefinitely.

This topic got me into spending sometime browsing HotScripts.com and visited quite a few scripts. Found some great lowcost ones.

The free Spaw Editor, at solmetra.com, also look promising. What do you think?

Still, HTMLArea gets the best reviews.

No you can't. It is a developer tool not an embedded html editor.
