Is there an easy way to prevent new users from signing up for a site? Thanks, I can't seem to find an answer to this anywhere.

The simplest thing to do, is to edit your config.php and turn on 'usersubmission'. This will prevent users from creating their own accounts, but still allows them to request an account. The request will go in your sibmission queue which you can then use to accept or deny them an account.

If you didn't even want to allow them to request an account, you could edit the template file for your theme to not show teh sign up link. Look for:
{lang_signup}
in the template file, and remove it.
