I have taken the time to set up a small tutorial on Installing Geeklog on Windows 2000.

its a rough draft please add any comments if you feel the need to :-)

I\'ve installed it on both linux and windows... I dont notice any discrepancy except you have to chmod in linux. Oh yeah, you have to do one minor change to get email working... add /n/r(I think) to any mail functions in the php files. Not sure what you need a document/tutorial for. Never the less, there are some people who don\'t know what to do.

Adding /r/n to the mail functions did not make them all work on the server I used. The email in people's profiles was still inoperative and I forget where else.

The instructions are geared towards an *nix server. The directory systems are entirely different between the two. Some of the instructions are confusing unless you realize which ones don't apply to a Windows environment.

There are also some functions which can't be used like running cron jobs for emailing GL stories and using its backup feature.

Like you said they aren't that many differences, but enough to be confusing the first time you try the software.

Actually, items that require cron jobs like emailgeeklogstories can be used in Windows 2000 if you use the "Scheduled Tasks" feature under Control Panel to point to a batch file that will run the PHP script from the command line as follows:

c:\php\php.exe d:\inetpub\wwwroot\emailgeeklogstories

Using "Scheduled Tasks" you can setup the days/times you want the script to run. Easy to setup and get working.

I think the Geeklog install docs do a great job except for one thing... the virtual directory. I had no idea that I needed to set my virtual directory in IIS to point to x:\geeklogroot\public_html. Once I figured that out it was a breeze.

I'd include something about that.
