Announcements

The first beta version of Geeklog v2.2.1 is now available for download.

This version of Geeklog now fully supports PHP v7.3. The minimum PHP requirements have changed, they have gone from v5.3.3 to v5.6.4. In part for security reasons, we decided to update the minimum requirements of PHP to v5.6 since this is the only version of PHP v5 that has received any security updates in the last year. The system requirements for installing Geeklog v2.2.1 is now:

  • PHP 5.6.4 or higher
  • MySQL 4.1.2 or higher (MySQL 5 recommended)
  • Postgresql 9.1.7 or later

New major features, improvements and fixes in this version include:

  • [Feature] Geeklog now uses PHP built in support for sessions.
  • [Feature] Structured Data directly integrated into Geeklog along with plugin support.
  • [Feature] Automatically generate image/icon for Users.
  • [Feature] A configurable Likes and Dislikes system that also supports plugins.
  • [Feature] Switch to RichFileManager since original Filemanager is depreciated (and has been removed).
  • [Bug] Fixed saving of permissions for users when you have security groups within security groups.
  • [Bug] Fix for Duplicate Usernames & Usernames with Trailing Spaces.
  • [Bug] Fixed Geeklog User Group Assignments which were not correct on new installs.

... as well as a lot of other improvements and bug fixes. The complete list can be found on Github and in the history text file located in the docs directory of this release.

Around the final Geeklog v2.2.1 release (before and/or after) we plan to release a number of updated plugins to support the new Geeklog version and PHP v7.3. This includes:

  • Autotags
  • Ban
  • Downloads
  • FAQ and FAQMan
  • Forum (current version still will work with Geeklog v2.2.0)
  • GUS
  • Media Gallery
  • Menu
  • Messenger
  • Net Tools
  • Searchrank

These plugins can be found on Github in our Geeklog Plugins Repository. Most are currently in testing and have close to final code. Feel free to test these updated plugins and provide any feedback.

We would also like to put a request out there for translators. If you speak and write another language besides English or Japanese and would like to contribute to Geeklog please join the geeklog-translations mailing list. Translating Geeklog isn't complicated. Instructions can be found on the Geeklog Wiki or simply ask on the translation list.

We would like to encourage you to download this beta version, try it out, and give us your feedback. This is a beta version and it may still contain bugs. If you find any please report them in our Bug Tracker on GitHub. Depending on what issues are found the development team hopes to have the final release of Geeklog v2.2.1 out in December of this year.

Remember if you would like to chat with any of the community one of the best place to reach us is on Gitter in the Geeklog room.
