I did up a plugin to add an alternate backup capability to Geeklog. A couple friends have helped out with alpha testing, but I'd like to get a few more people who are using different servers, especially Windows -- IIS and Apache, to see if they hit any bugs before releasing this. The plugin retains the current backup capability which uses mysqldump and the exec command. The alternate backup uses direct database queries. Users can select all or a subset of tables to backup in different formats. The plugin also allows Admins to delete any of the backup files. What I'd like the beta testers to do, is try the different features and compare the backup output with their tables' content. Then read the backup output into a dummy database to make sure phpMyAdmin or whatever software they use to restore is not choking on any of it. If a tester runs into any discrepancies, he or she should report those to me so I can fix them. Also, if he/she has any recommendation on a different screen layout or additional features to send those too. Those interested in helping beta test, please send the following configuration info in an email to me: MySQL Version, PHP Version, Operating System, Server Software (Apache, IIS, or whatever) Type and Version.

Why not submit a tarball/zip of your file to our
download section?[*1]

The reason people blame things on previous generations is that there's only one other choice.

I'd like to get any major bugs out first.
I'm also having a problem finding software for taring it up. I don't have command line access so I can't do it that way. The couple I've tried don't retain the file structure when their extracted. I wasn't sure if zipping works okay on *nix systems.

I can't get the Geeklog backup util to work so I'd be willing to test it. I run IIS on Win2k.
Also, as for compression stuff... try PicoZip or WinACE if you're on the windows platform. Both are excellent.---Paul 'T1Pimp'
