I have completed a beta of my PM plugin v1
there are a few things that need doing still, a notification block for example (that wil be done tonight!!!) but for now here is a link to download what it is.
Please let me know of any error etc...
I wrote it for the Gameserver theme. It might look a bit odd on any other themes until you change the template code but see what you think...
here is the download: http://www.object4.co.uk/pm.zip

oops probly should have explained it a bit... my mistake.
OK the idea of this is that you can send mesages to other users on the site that can have formatting like the forum posts. you can see when someone has read any message you have sent them and see the messages you have sent.. so basically you have an inbox, an outbox and a sentbox.

OK i have done a block for it as well...
there is an option to stop the popup box (cos it can get quite annoying!)
if you feel you can add to this plugin in ANY way please email me any code or suggestions or anything you have done to it!
i would very much like to make this as good as possable.

Template Error: set_root: C:/inetpub/wwwroot/geeklog/plugins/pm/templates is not a directory.
Halted.
I was tempted to rename the template_dir folder to templates but decided to check with you first.

hmmm.... yeah that would be a problem...
change the template_dir to templates...
i forgot that the install looks there!!!
the template files should be copys to the layout dir as well tho in to the folder of whatever themes you are using... or rather in to a folder called PM in whatever themes you are using...
arhh my first plugin im not very good at explaining.
hope people can work it out!!! i would love some comments!
(apart from the docs are crap and its very complicated)

For the record PM means Private Message or Private Mail.. however you want to call it...
it is a way for users to send nice messages to each other that look similar to forum posts...
hope people understand!!
its similar to private messages in phpBB and other forums.

Have you limited the amount of storage space for each person or have a setting for it?? Depending on the site's subject matter, PM's can get pretty popular.

Hey, the docs are crap and it's too complicated!

So you copy the templates to your layoutpm dirs in addition to renaming the original template directory? Sounds good, off I go..

You may want to run through the installer again, it seems to break all over the place.
First the templates issue, you have to copy it in to like 3 directories for the installer to run.
When the installer runs, the little plugin icons don't show, they point to a non-existent path.
After the installer finishes, you are thanked by Blaine (I love this part) and told everything is ok. It indicates new user prefs, admin prefs and a block is available.
Nothing new is infact available ):
If you run the installer again it still tells you PM is not installed.

The installer did however create (I assume) a table called gl_pm so something worked!

why don't you set up a temporary guest account for people to try this out instead of requiring everyone sign up for an account?

Thank you. It's looking good. I tried sending a test message back to demo, but it didn't go anywhere. Maybe this is by design?
