Looking at phpwebsite and geeklog ...and have been working at getting geeklog available but it is much more of hassle to install. That doesn't mean the product isn't good just that it seems to have been designed for easy setup on windows boxes, however, it is done with PHP and that seems like a little bit of a backwards move in my opinion. joe

Was Geeklog first developed for installation in a MS windows operating environment and later converted to a Linux / UNIX environment? As for "newbie joe" it would appear that Geeklog was designed for windows rather than a Linux environment. I will be more specific after I have more time to "try again to install it". joe

How is geeklog difficult to install? I have set it up on Linux, Solaris, Win2k and *BSD, so I find your comment to be tough to agree with. *IF* you have the prerequisites of a webserver with PHP, MySQL, text editor and web browser, the install of GL is MUCH easier than most other blogs Edit 2 files, open a page in a browser.. what is so difficult? Or am I just such a computer geek that it is too easy for me? There are issues with GL that the developers are always working on... ease of install is not one of the problems that I can see with GL *MAYBE* if you posted your problem, instead of saying it dont work, you might get some assistance... -John

Is it so hard to believe it was built with both windows and linux in mind? If so, why? Having done a number of installs on both environments, I argue it is harder to configure Geeklog on windows than linux. Of course 90% of my problems are more to do with configuring IIS with PHP than anything else. In the end, the installation is not much different on either environment. I am having trouble setting up GL. I have configured the files and run the install script. After I entered the path for Geeklog it came up with : Fatal error: Failed opening required 'c:/www/geeklog/system//classes/mysql.class.php' (include_path='.;c:\php4\pear') in c:\www\geeklog\system\lib-database.php on line 105 How can I fix this problem?

I run Geeklog in Win2k Server. The only difficulty I had with installing it was that I was pointing the IIS home directory to the g:\geeklog directory, instead of g:\geeklog\public_html. Geeklog install was as easy as pie (and it tasted good too). I had never touched a CMS untill I tried Geeklog. I faced another difficulty... reported problems wih CMS' and IIS. I tried geeklog and quickly threw those other rumours out the window. Geeklog is the easiest CMS to install (yes, I have tried other ones 'xoops, phpws, postnuke, typo'). Its config file is simple and clean. Adding and removing blocks and other functions are easy to find and configure. I love geeklog, and dont anyone tell me it dont work on windows! chat.dx-c.net is living proof .
