I can log in as Admin, Moderator, or as any New User I create, but, the section with Username and Password remains on the screen. I would expect it to change such that "my calendar", "account information", etc. is displayed as active links.

If you still see the login form, then you're not really logged in. See the FAQ: I can't log in.
