I am using geeklog commonly as an faq system. It's a really flexible system and I love it. However, when it comes to image management GL really sucks. If there are images e.g. [image1] that need to changed within a long article, Geeklog changes [image2] to [image1]. Especially when you're working with 20 images, this becomes really frustrating and usually you do not have the time to replace every picture manually with an FTP account.

I really wish to see any progess in this direction.

We are aware that the image management is simply a small add-on to the story feature.
It is far away from a professional multimedia manager as other CMS have.

But to be honest, it was never thought to be much more. I personally recommend you to use a real plugin that was made for professional media management, such as the media gallery plugin. This also allows you to centrally manage images, independent of which story they are used in.

Have you tried using the Advanced Editor mode with the built-in Image Library feature. It uses the FCKeditor and you can enable the full functionality if required.

The FCKeditor can also be enabled in the StaticPage editor and easily added to any other plugin.

If your site uses many images and uses it frequently, you should try MediaGallery plugin. It allows you to use "AutoTag" to display images on your article and is very flexible. I use a lot of images too, and MediaGallery saves me a great deal of time.

This sounds really interesting to me. I thought that MediaGallery is more a general image gallery. I am going to try it out. Thank you for your feedback.

Thanks for the good idea. I`m just stuck with one thing. If I insert a picture with an autotag oimage: I always have a link to the pic in the gallery. If I use the gallery just as media ressource I don`t want to show it to people. Any chance to get rid of it? Does inmemoriam solve this one aspect better?

talk to the author of media-gallery.
He is working on a way to make that plugin a 1-1 replacement for the story's image function. I dont know how far he exactly got.

I think oimage tag will soon be phased out. It is replaced by 'media' with 'srcrig' tag.

The link is in one of the template files. Find something that named like autotag.thtml, and comment out the link tag.

I haven't tried this myself. But, I found that you can customize quite a bit with the template files.

If you want to use Media Gallery as an image management system for articles, it can support that today pretty well. With the current release, you can have a 'hidden' album that is only available to mediagallery.admin group. So, place your images you want to use in the articles in the hidden album. Now you can use the oimage autotag (or any auto tag supported by Media Gallery)to display the image in the article, there will not be a link back to the album, just the image with no href. Media Gallery will check if the source album is hidden it will not place a href around the image, instead just display the image in the article. This is true for all the auto tags Media Gallery supports.

Sam is correct that I want to phase out the oimage (which stands for original image btw) and get back to a couple of core auto tags with parameters to control what/how they work. For example, using something like

would give you a auto tag for the media id 1234123 with no href link a border around the image and it would use the 'display image' as the source instead of the thumbnail image. All this will be available in the next release.

What Oliver is referencing is something he sparked where Media Gallery would allow you to show the thumbnail in a story or static page and instead of linking to the full blown Media Gallery album view or image view when clicked, instead it would simply give you a full view of the item without all the other Media Gallery stuff. Similar to what you see today with the standard image support in Geeklog. If you click the thumbnail, Geeklog shows you the full image. This would be very similar but would still wrap the image with the Geeklog header/footer and provide a navigation back to the story or static page. This is also a feature I hope to have available in the next release.

Mark, thanks for reminding us the autotaging from the hidden album. I just remember that I have used that before and it does take care of the need 1000ideen is talking about.

One more question concerning the FCKed. "the built-in Image Library feature" is that the picture icon and then upload? It never works with me no matter how long I wait. Usually I get an XML error.

Anyway is it possible to use the FCKed in the mail users utility? It seems to be a completely forgotten tool.
