I'm glad to see that updates to GL are still moving along!

I've been kind of offline most of the last 2 years... my site has just barely stayed afloat, and my home pc had collected dust. I think its time to get back into some site development.

Every once in awhile I was popping in to see what has been posted in the forum, and my observation is the #1 complaint is lack of Forum plugin support or bridges. I've tested a number of forums over the years and I finally decided on a terrific one that is similar to vB. It doesn't have the thousands of plugins that phpBB seems to have, but considering how terribly and unnecessarily complex phpBB has become, I'm okay working around that.

So I'm wondering, maybe I should provide you guys and gals a myBB bridge for GL?

Hmm... maybe I will, since it now seems to be a community supported plugin now, rather than maintained by one author.

What are your immediate plans for it, and long term goals?

Short term - finish up version 2.8.0 and release it some time soon. I don't think we thought through the long-term plans, yet (or at least there was no public discussion about this). Anyway, everything happened quite fast, we transferred a development version of the forum from the geeklog Japanese group to our repository and pretty much concentrated on tidying stuff up and implementing some long-overdue features. So it was all a bit "take it as it comes". Now we have a beta2 out, and as a matter of fact I'm going to bring up the topic of where do we want to go "long-term" after the final release of v2.8.0.

As far as I remember the main problems with the forum plugin were that the file structure is so unusual that people couldn`t FTP it propperly tho the webspace. I helped several users to set the forum up. Unfortunately this problem still persists.

Within the forum plugin one complaint was that the date is hard coded. This has been solved now in the beta version.

I think that the directory structure is already better than what it was in 2.7.4, we were going to work even more on that, but ended up only talking about it and the feature freeze date arrived
We'll definitely continue on that effort for 2.9.0 :wink:

The glFusion team changed the directory structure of the ZIP of the packages and plugins so that it is more obvious where to place what.

I`m looking forward to seeing this also with GL and plugins soon.

Anyway, the correct date is absolutely great in the new forum.
