You have to use both object and embed tags as below: <object classid="clsidBig Grin27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.#version=5,0,30,0" height="300" width="300"> <param name="movie" value="your movie"> <param name="quality" value="best"> <param name="play" value="true"> <embed height="300" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/index.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash" src="your movie" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="300" quality="best" play="true"> </object> Replace "your movie" with absolute urls to your .swf file. Works for me within GL but I haven't tried it in header.thtml though. Anyone?

By the way, I think you have to add <embed>, <object>, and <param> tags in the list of allowable html in config.php. Also, don't forget to change the height and width arguments to match the dimensions of your movie.

Good thinking about adding allowable html, hadn't thought of that. It still doesn't seem to embed. I have the embed code correct - I just generated it in Dreamweaver and copy and pasted it, it's all the right size aswell but no. However when the page appears the area is occupied by a swf cos I can right click on it and it tells me the usual "About Macromedia Flash 6" so the player is being called but doesn't finish loading the movie. hmm strange.

Then something is wrong with either your Flash movie itself or your Flash Player. Can't help you with any more than that.

Sorry, It was just me being a dumb ass, I had to put the movie in as a absolute path for it to work, It was relative before. It doesn't need extra Allowed HTML tags to work either. Thanks for your help.

I just replaced the img with embed and the /a with /embed. Worked perfectly with gameserver but haven't tried with other themes.

Edited file is header.thtml in the root of each individual layout folder.

i had no problems at all putting a flash movie in to my header.thtml.

However, when the movie played, all the text was upside down.

Has anyone come across this before, and if so, how was it fixed

I have a Flash movie in my banner at http://dubiousprofundity.com/ and I added the embed, object, and param tags...however. I am trying to show a flash movie as an article, and I just get what looks like an empty i-frame. I used absolute paths everywhere the swf was called...can anyone help?

Even weirder...I tried to solve the problem with an iframe, and same result. So, I viewed the src html for the iframe, and it was broken there too...however, when I run that source on my desktop, no problem...this is bizarre.

The upside down and reversed movie indicates to me that you probably use Swish MX latest version without a bona fide license. There is a lot of chatter out there about this and I suffered this fate as well. This is my understanding and may not be applicable to your circumstance. Taught me a nasty lesson tho. heheh

For all you Flash people - don't forget that there are many people who don't have it installed! You should make your site usable without it as well.

Use this code to show video in the story section.

Text Formatted Code
<div align="center"><embed name="You Clip Name"
src="/video-clips/YourVideoClip.swf" width="360" height="340"
type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="sameDomain"
bgcolor="#ffffff" quality="high" /></div>

Hope this helps.

BTW, very few people nowadays don't have flesh installed. It is impossible to enjoy the web without flash. Even, EV1servers, usually the most usability oriented, has redesigned their web with flesh. FoxNews.com has switched to Flash for their video streaming.

I beg to differ. I don't know too many people who actually have flash installed [then again that's just anecdotal evidence...]. Do you have any numbers?

The sites I use only use flash for advertising - and quite annoying advertising at that.

I do have numbers and they say that 97% of internet enabled computers have the flash 4 or higher plugin installed.
Yes I am mental.

Yay! I'm in the minority! [Again!]

Is there a report online you can link to?

Thanks.

Doesn't that mean you already have flash installed?
