Mark and I are still happy to continue supporting any of the plugins or themes we've published thus far for Geeklog, but we do not plan on releasing any new updates to those plugins or themes for the Geeklog environment. If you are interested in picking up development of any of these legacy plugins or themes for Geeklog, please feel free to contact us.

So sad news for Geeklog community today. But life is life. Long life to glFusion, long life to Geeklog.

I will be inresting in the future development of some of that great gllabs plugins. Can everybody tell me more about the way you see this? About name, about organisation...?

Hi Ben,

Not exactly sure what you mean with referring to name and organization, but my thought is this: Mark Howard (mst3kroqs) has already offered to continue development on the Chameleon plugin/theme under Geeklog. He has been working closely with Mark and I, and should be releasing something soon along those lines.

If anyone wants to do the same and take over development of Media Gallery, Captcha, Dokuwiki, vThemes, etc. or any of the themes that I have released for Geeklog v1.4.1, feel free to contact Mark or myself, and we'll get you the latest source code we have. We would be happy to see their development continued on the Geeklog platform.

We plan to continue to develop the above items under the glFusion umbrella, but I would think that if anyone wanted to re-brand or re-name any of them (to help avoid confusion between the two projects) then we are all for it, as long as proper licensing and attribution are maintained. (And yes, that door swings both ways!)

The beauty about open source code is that this freedom is built in. I've said it before, and I want to re-iterate it again, I hope this separation will ultimately be a good thing for the community and for these two projects, and I hope to continue in the spirit of collaboration between the two projects. Mark Howard, and his work on Chameleon, has been a strong example of this open spirit of collaboration and we are grateful for it.

As mentioned previously, we've decided to separate because of differing philosophies, but that doesn't mean that both can't co-exist peacefully and without animosity. Nobody is *right* and nobody is *wrong* in situations like this. It's just a different point of view we are offering to the community. Hopefully everyone will examine both solutions and use the one that fits their needs best for any given project.

Now, changing the subject a little Ben, I want to applaud you for putting together this Summer of Design effort. I sincerely hope you have a great response. Unfortunately, I won't be able to participate, as I have my plate full with obvious other things. :wink: But I would like to offer you specifically the opportunity to take the reins on any of the themes that I have released for Geeklog. I think you've made some wonderful themes, and have a desire to see this aspect of the codebase further explored and developed. :shakehands: Feel free to email me if you're interested.

I made a new post about your themes to see what we can do here to port your job to Geeklog 1.5 because it would be pity to lose it.

About plugins I suggest to not rename them here on geeklog's umbrella and to open a new bug tracker project for each of them on project.geeklog.net/tracking/.

Dirk if you could do this In a first time, it will help us to centralize feature requests for the next versions.

Cordiste have you done work on the CAPTCHA plugin yet?

I have version 3.0.3 (the current released version is 3.0.2) which Mark had updated a while ago to include support for the new 2.4.0 rating plugin. I'll be releasing the rating plugin soon (after some more testing) and would like to release the upgraded CAPTCHA as well.

What about Media Gallery? I've programmed a patch that makes MG displaying PDF files directly in the browser (if the user has a PDF reader, of course) instead of prompting to open/save them (which chases the average user away).

Ironically, I hate when PDFs open in the browser and prefer when they open in Acrobat Reader externally. There's even a Firefox extension (or 2) to help you control where PDFs end up.

Well, in my patch, you can still right click PDF files and choose "save as". I think there's a difference between users who want to casually view some PDF file and get on to the next page, and those who want to "stop everything" and view it externally, then print it, etc.

But since opinions differ, this leads me to:

First of all, "in his browser" is "his prefered reader" just as well. It's the same program, only embedded in the browser. But to solve the problem, I think there should be both a *global default and a "Personal MG settings" choice.

* Hopefully, the default to the global default would be what I chose, because I think that's much more friendly to the average casual user.

First of all, ever since my last post I've extended my script to handle every mime type which starts with application/ but doesn't end with /x-msdownload (EXE files). You can take this if statement as-is and just add something like "&& $enable_direct_view".

Secondly, Acrobat has nothing to do with my script. It's all about header control. I just don't apply a few headers (that Mark put it to force the file to be treated like an external attachment) and add a new one, and suddenly the file is opened directly. And if you choose to save it instead, it's still saved with its original name (thanks to the new header).
