I think a nice enhancement to the Geeklog site would be to have one static page with links to as many resources, themes, plugins, blocks and hacks as possible - a one stop page. It's sometimes frustrating having to search for themes, (I only use one actually), or other needed info, although the core sites, this one, squatty.com, portalparts.com, will generally net what I'm looking for.

I was actually planning on doing that for the Geeklog Documentation Project. Unfortunately, that has yet to get started.

research how to cooperate with other applications as galleries (gallery 2, coppermine) and forums (phpbb, invboard, ...).

we don't need every portal/cms group to clone a phpbb and vice-versa phpbb shouldn't build there own portal.

work together.

i have found geeklog thru opensourcecms.com

i found e107 and geeklog the best for my needs, but i want to make some sandboxes to get the ultimate experience in the terms of maintaining as well.

one problem is that i need to support html illiterate editors/publishers.... and that sucks.. but i have seen today that it is doable using something like htmlarea. are you thinking of implementing something like this? (htmlarea is bsd licensed)

Search the forums for "htmlarea" - lots of people have already integrated it with Geeklog.

I was also one of the poll users who were "still thinking about it" - but I decided to switch ever since MovableType decided to become a "payed for" service with the version 3 release.

I'm now in the process of finding themes for GL.

Although I must say there is a lot of useful functionality with GL, there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of themes out there. I count, maybe 15-20 tops? (Correct me if I'm wrong though.)

MovableType has... 30+ themes, at least. And which I don't like to say, but seem to be designed more professionally than the GL themes. (I know I'm going to recieve flames for that statement).

Don't get me wrong though, I'm giving GL a fair and honest chance at becoming my main CMS. And if I had even the slightest bit of design and/or creativity skills, I'd be designing themes for GL myself .. but unfortunately that won't ever happen...

There were 60+ last time I counted. Although quite a few of them are recolored versions of the standard themes (XSilver and Clean variants are especially popular).

I had a site once were I collected them all, but its down at the moment. Robert Stadnik has probably the most complete collection at the moment, see here.

As a n00b to PHP/MySql/Linux, I have found Geeklog fantatstic. It offers the features I wanted, and absoluytly no headaches. I think the installation process is much easier then the tutorials explain. Its all very straightforward, without all the overkill and confusion PHPNuke and the millions of others seem to have.

My website has come up in record time, and has things integrated into it I have always wanted.

Too bad there isnt a paypal contribution link here somewhere, I fancy throwing some money at it, and if you knew me personannly, that would astound and amaze you more then the circus.

I've been using Geeklog for about 6 months now, both on my personal site and my employer's website and it's great.

There are two things I'd like to see, and maybe they already exist:

1: A static page that would allow you to change all the CONFIG.PHP settings without manually editing the file and then uploading it via FTP.

2: An absolutely plain theme with no graphics and minimal CSS that us n00bs could use as a basic template. It would be great if the CSS for this starter them could have full ducumentation saying what each style is specifically used for.

I say that because the themes I do like seem to have extra styles that aren't used, and it's confusing trying to figure out where each one is used.

Regardless, GL is a great app.

As long as you can make your config.php editable by the webserver check out my Admin Tools

Just started installing Geeklog yesterday, and run in some problems , but I think I've got it fixed now. I had some problems wiht installing stuff in the public_html folder, but that is now fixed. I'm just left with some double directories (like layout, which is both in the public_html file and just outside it, and both are being used by Geeklog, but I can live with this.

Now I'm just going to find some neat plug-ins or mods or whatever it's called

You should really fix this, or you'll run into problems sooner or later. But you'd better start a new forum thread for that ...
