question about server setting $_CONF['path_html'] ...

My path is /var/www/html/
I don't have a /public_html/ in my path.
Should I just ignore this setting when doing my server settings in config.php prior to install?
Or
Should I leave this config setting blank? ''
Or
Should I put '/' in the config for this setting?
Or
Something else?
Or
Should I put /public_html/ in my path? If so then I guess I need to adjust the document root setting in my httpd.conf file. If I have to adjust this setting how come there is no discussion of this in the GL installation instructions?
Reason I ask is that I'm getting all the way through the installation and then get a blank success.php
Thanks

If you're getting all the way through the install, only to see a blank
success page, you should also check the path in your lib-common.php
file.
Cheers,
Phill.

treat public_html as a generic expression for your html root (document root), for example on redhat systems it is /var/www/html/
In most webservers you'll find an example index.html there to prove that the server is working.
Just place the contents of public_html there and then set the correct path. It should work, mine does.

Dear Matt,
Turns out in my case that leaving this setting blank
was the setting that worked for me.
Installation success! Finally.
Thanks

Did that. Got it working fine on Mandrake 8.2 box at home.
Still having the same damn problem on a similarly configured
Mandrake box at work.
Copied the identical config.php settings to machine at work, too.

So the settings are now the same but you're getting a blank success page?
Are the premissions set correctly? As well as the Web user name? There should be instructions in the GL files for installs on remote machines concerning permissions and chowning the files....
Perhaps the pathing is slightly different on both machines?
If your work machine is set to look elsewhere (say a special web user account "home" and the admin failed to remove the original folder?
