I've just installed the News Block and it works perfectly. However I cannot add new topics (RDF/RSS feeds) so they are displayed. All of the default ones work fine (except for discontinued like USA Today). While in the Administration menu of news after clicking any of the default topics I get a list of Headlines, after adding something new like e.g. Top US stories, I get nothing. I tried to change xml into rss but didn't help. What could be a possible issue?

The RSS parser in the News Block is based off GL 1.3.5 code. The parser has known issues (can't parse) *every* RSS file you through at it. If the default feeds work then the issue is most certainly related to the out dated parser.

The long answer is...I need to get to work on a new News Block that uses the GL 1.3.6 parser. The short is no. You may want to consider using the "geeknews" page created by Tom as an alternative. You can download the cod here or see it in action here.
