help needed configuring

Hello,
I don't seem to get the paths-thing allright.
I have copied the public part into a new directory in my public_html directory (would like to keep m separated from my existing pages). One level up I created a directory "geeklogged" I've set up config.php as follows:
$_CONF['path'] = '/geeklogged/'; // C:/inetpub/wwwroot/geeklog/
// You only need to change this if you moved or renamed the public_html
// directory. In that case, you should specify the complete path to the
// directory like this: $_CONF['path_html'] = '/path/to/your/public_html/';
$_CONF['path_html'] = $_CONF['/home/efischer/public_html/geeklog/'] . 'public_html/';
// you shouldn't need to edit the following
$_CONF['path_system'] = $_CONF['path'] . 'system/';
$_CONF['path_log'] = $_CONF['path'] . 'logs/';
$_CONF['path_language'] = $_CONF['path'] . 'language/';
$_CONF['rdf_file'] = $_CONF['path_html'] . 'backend/geeklog.rdf';
$_CONF['backup_path'] = $_CONF['path'] . 'backups/';
The result when I trie to go on is:
Fatal error: Failed opening required '/path/to/geeklog/config.php' (include_path='') in /home/efischer/public_html/geeklog/lib-common.php on line 65
Obviously I'm doing something wrong, but I can't figure it out .
Someone out there to point me in the right direction?
thanks,
Eric

All you need to do is edit lib-common.php and edit the path at the top to include your config.php.
This is simply a step you missed in the installation instructions ;-)---The reason people blame things on previous generations is that there's only one other choice.

I have read your dilemma and I'm in the same boat as you.. Confused..What we "confused" need" is more specific directions as we are newbies and just "don't get it" . I believe we could get it if the powers that be would be more specific. This "general" comment.. just change your paths doesn't get it...If we could change the path... We would...DUH!

Well, I did this, still same results.
I've also tried to change /public_html/ to /www/ (www seems to be an
alias of public_html). Still the same error.
Well, maybe someone can point me out, after Christmas…
thanks,
Eric

The manual is indeed a little ehh, sparse to me, being neither a geek nor
english speaker.

Great suggestion. Can we count on you guys in updating the docs once you get your sites online?

It is a bit difficult be more specific in some cases. In this particular case you should change the '/path/to/geeklog/config.php' to reflect where you (yes, you!) placed the config.php file. Nobody else knows where it is.

I had major trouble when I first tried to install geeklog 1.3.6; I was following everything to the letter. My problem had to do with what/where root was, what areas are "public" and above, my web space has a www folder as well as a public_html folder, and I don't have a clue why as they have identical contents.
I would like to suggest that a screen snap of the folder hierachy be part of the docs! That was my entire problem. I have this feeling you are doing the same thing as I.
