You can use a static page as the homepage. Create a new static page, give it the title "frontpage" and the label "nonews" and it will replace the story listing on the homepage.
As for the time: Have a look at the config options available.

Sure, but your visitors will have to select a topic from the sections block. Or you could leave off the "nonews" label, then the content of the static page is displayed above the stories.

Hello its me again, i have installed geeklog 1.3.8-1sr4 and im having a similar problem to what ive had before (see posts above). i have my home page as a staic page but my stories are apearing at the bottom of this static page how can i disable the option to veiw stories. ive set the label to 'nonews' and the title to 'frontpage' but there is still the option to have stories at the bottom of the page. i have edited the stories so that they only show in the topic but this message is still apearing at the bottom of my static home page
"No News To Display
There are no news stories to display. There may be no news for this topic or your user preferences may be too restrictive."
any ideas on how to disable this?
Thanks

This was only a hack and isn't supported any more. Use the center block options, introduced with Geeklog 1.3.8, instead.

A simple search for "No News To Display" gives you:
THIS!
What makes things real worse is that "No News to Display" is a headline in the last forum postings block *sigh

*use the f***ing search engine

Thanks for the advice geKnob, oh sorry i mean geKow, and for your information i did use the search engine but it kept timing out after 30 sec so i could not find your fantastic post. You might want to consider using a different attitude when posting.
Thanks for the Cheerful help!
