Email Notification

Two problems and I don\'t know where to start to fix them:
1. I do not get a notification when a user makes a submission (user, story or article). I set this up in config.php, but maybe I did something weird elsewhere.
2. When I approve a user to my site, the user gets TWO emails. The user gets one email with a password telling of his approval. About a half minute later the user gets ANOTHER email with a different password.
(I\'m on Linux Redhat 9.0. Anyone know of a really good tutorial to setup sendmail under Redhat? I have read the stuff on Redhat\'s site. It seems either not up-do-date or hard to understand.)
Thanks!

A few thoughts...First, if you did not already find the thread, there is a problem with redhat 9 in that it ships essentially incompatible versions of Apache and PHP.
Very recently new update rpms appeared at updates.redhat.com (along with items for mysql)..I have been using these and they are working better.
As for the new user thing I had issues there too. check your /var/logs/mailog and see if sendmail is complaining (and sleeping) for about 60 seconds because of something like
localhost sendmail[1019]: My unqualified host name (localhost) unknown; sleeping for retry
I was hitting this. It was causing new user signups and moderations to work poorly (moderation would work but page would come back blank).
Take a look at
http://www.oreillynet.com/cs/user/view/cs_msg/6371
for the approach to fix it if you have this problem.

Thanks very much for your reply. I updated Redhat and it does indeed work better.
I used up2date and it did not return an update for mysql or php. It did return updates for apache and sendmail.
The dual emails seem to have stopped. I still have an odd problem. When I checked the mail log, it reports that a notification has been sent to the Geeklog administrative account. That\'s good. But I never receive the notification!
I happened upon /var/spool/mail and I found that all administrative notifications are collecting there in a single textfile.
Does that make any sense at all? Sendmail seems a real bear.
Thanks again.

Have a look at your mail logfile (/var/log/mail.log or wherever it is under RedHat). It should tell you why it didn\'t send out these emails.

Yep.

Thanks Dirk. I\'ve checked the log and only saw that the message had been sent to the admin account specified in config.php. Unfortunately the admin messages are ALL collecting in the spool directory (previously mentioned) in a text file.
Has something to do with how I set up sendmail. I\'ll recheck everything. It\'s the first time I\'ve set up sendmail.
Thanks for the reply.
