Well, I\'ve decided on geeklog, now I just need to install it (on tripod/lycos). I was hoping to find (and found) some else that has done it (Yay Dirk!) but unfortunately, I don\'t speak german. So, anyone want to translate, and maybe we can even get the translation on the site. http://mitglied.lycos.de/geeklog/ Regards, Anthony.

Well, just thought I pass on my success at installing geeklog on tripod/lycos. I guessed a few of the answers by looking at the german site, but mostly I got the answers from the install docs that come with the tar ball. Still early days yet, as I have only just got the success page. I still have to workout how to incorporate the Lycos banner adds in a nice way. I also got a error related to the chmod command during the install, since all unix command are disabled on the Lycos server (funnily enought Big Grin ) In a nut shell, I put everything from the tar ball NOT in the public_html directory into a geeklog directory on tripod. ie members.lycos.co.uk/youraccountnamehere/geeklog And then put everything from the tar ball in the public_html directory in the root directory on lycos ie members.lycos.co.uk/youraccountnamehere/ I\'ll play around with the permissions and .htaccess files (as soon as I find a howto on .htaccess file) and let you know how I go. hehehe.. I know I shouldn\'t be suprosed, but, IT WORKED!! WooHoo Mr. Green Now why did I intall 3 other CMS\'s first?!? Oops! Regards, Anthony. P.S: I still think a translation of the German site would be good (hint hint), however I\'ll try and write a little lycos/geeklog howto once I have it all running. It\'s all so exciting!!

Just wanted to add that it\'s been a long time since I installed Geeklog there (and I\'ve also forgotten all the passwords ...). From what I\'ve heard, Lycos seems to offer slightly different services in different countries, so you may run into problems here and there. The general idea is, as has been explained above, to put the files and directories which should normally reside outside of the document root into a directory inside of it and then password-protect that directory (using .htaccess, etc.). That is usually secure enough (unless the hosting service switches off password protection ...). bye, Dirk

Hi, Thanks for the responses. Especially the translation. Boy what a giggle we had. It speaks English better than my German, but only just. LOL For the record, I\'ve installed geeklog on the lycos.co.uk servers, and I still plan to post more details about those damn side framed banner ads.. as soon as I\'ve worked it out. (The nice graphical ones from the top I can live with) I\'ll be back with more questions no doubt. Regards, Anthony.
