1.3.9 Upgrade woes

stupid
Something tells me I did somethig really stupid or I just have a typo somewhere.

I'm trying to upgrade 1.3.8 to 1.3.9.
'mv geeklog geeklog_old'
'mv geeklog_new geeklog'
edit config.php and libcommon.php
go to admin/install/install.php choose upgrade and I get this....

Text Formatted Code
Parse error: parse error in /usr/www/users/myaccount/mysite/geeklog/config.php on line 201

Warning: main(databases/.class.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /usr/www/users/myaccount/mysite/geeklog/system/lib-database.php on line 110

Fatal error: main(): Failed opening required 'databases/.class.php' (include_path='.:/usr/local/lib/php') in /usr/www/users/myaccount/mysite/geeklog/system/lib-database.php on line 110

I know parse errors are usually path issues but I have checked and double checked and it all looks good to me. Line 201 is in the site layout area so I tried changeing the theme but that didn't help either.

What am I forgetting? What should I look at?

I copied the old site back temporarily but of course that is now semi broken.

Parse errors are not the same thing as path issues. Usually, it's a missing semicolon or a missing single quote. Start at line 201 and work your way up (not down), checking all the lines that you changed.

Btw, line 201 in the original config.php (for 1.3.9) is an empty line after the $_CONF['hide_author_exclusion'] option).

bye, Dirk

Looks like I found that problem. My editor line wrapped a line without asking. Bad editor! Thanks Dirk.

Now I get

Text Formatted Code
1050: Table 'gl_syndication' already exists

I have no idea what to do now.

P.S. And now I am posting in the wrong threads. Feel free to delete the other message. My apologies. I think i need to take a break.

I'd suggest re-installing the backup of your database from before your upgrade attempt and running the install script (in upgrade mode) again.

bye, Dirk

gloomy

Yeah, well, ummmmm, I'm an idiot. OK, I got that out of the way. I didn't back up [hang-head 'shame']

I got 1.3.8 working again. Wasn't easy, had weird permisions problems with the error log. Tried to do a backup (Always wondered what that link in the Admin interface was for. Doh!) My theme didn't have the correct database files, then config.php didn't have the correct backup directory. Now when I try to back up I get

Backup Failed: Filesize was 0 bytes

It does create a file though, it is just zero bytes long.

At this point I don't care. My crap is so screwed up it is probably beyond repair. 1.3.8-1sr4 is working for the moment which is good enough for now. I'll wait until I have another free weekend day to upgrade, if that is even possible at this point.

Well, I have a free day tomorrow and am going to try this upgrade thing one more time.

I have been able to manually backup my database but the backup still does not work through GL. My database is screwy somehow. While 1.3.8 is still working I get weird errors when I login or out sometimes.

I've downloaded and installed MySQLCC to my home machine and can connect to my remote DB. Any suggestions on what to look at in the DB to fix this?
