Summarizing Forum on static page. How?

I've got this project that has stories posted to a topic, a dedicated forum and a few other things. I'm setting up a "main index" page for that project, and I'd like to summarize the recent stories and forum topics for that project on the index page.

I've created a static page and now I'd like to put "some kind of code" into the static page that displays a summary of recent forum entries, similar to the one that shows up on the home page of GeekLog.net, but with only entries from a particular forum area. Is there a php call already implemented that I could use for this? A block I can download maybe? Or do I have to write my own from scratch?

Why don't you have a look at how the forum's centerblock is implemented? It's in the forum's functions.inc somewhere (too lazy to look up the exact name now - search for "center").

bye, Dirk

Thanks for the pointer. (Sometimes, the hardest part of learning a new system is figuring out where to look. :-)

That will certainly be a useable basis for the "build my own from scratch" perspective. Still holding out hope that somebody has been here before me and has some code they'd be willing to share. :-)

I have to agree - the code is all there in the centerblock or phpblock function that is provided with the forum. Look in the plugins functions.inc file.

You probally just need to strip some code away.

Okay. I can take a hint. Once I get something working, I'll then try to figure out how I might share it with others - either as my own phpblock, or as a submission to whoever owns/maintains the forum plugin.
