Apply a 1.3.8 theme to v.1.3.11?

NewB question here:
I like the look of Digital Ninja (Link to download) theme, which is a v1.3.8 theme.
1. Can I apply it to my v.1.3.11 version of geeklog?
2. Are the colors in the theme easy to manipulate (i.e. changing the yellow in the theme to red)?
3. Where can I learn more about applying a downloaded theme?
4. Where can I learn more about manipulating a theme?
Thanks! I'm a newb to php, but so far I love it

Ok I read the document over and I now understand that in order to upgrade my theme to 1.3.10 all I have to do is:
So, do I open each folder in my new theme and dump all of the corresponding files from the default 1.3.11 theme folder into it? Do I hit "no" when it asks me to overwrite files with the same name?
Thanks for your help dirk!
General note: To upgrade your custom theme for use with Geeklog 1.3.10, you can simply copy over any new template files from the Geeklog default theme.

Which file in my layout/DigitalNinja (my theme) folder do I manipulate to change the color of my boxes and other elements of my theme?
I would also like to make my main image a .swf(flash movie) file instead of a .jpg. Therefore, I can't simply replace the existing image with another .jpg with the same name. I need to manipulate code, but in which file?
Please let me know the answers to any of my many questions.
Thanks everybody!
