Using the plaintext function

while posting articles in geeklog you have a choice, either bring in HTML or use the plain old text mode. I'm interested in how this text mode is done. Is it a function? Can I use this function in my own geeklogged php pages?

Please help. I would like to call scripts and programs thru private geeklog pages but I would like to format the output without having oto write a full wrapper script.
