Hello everyone in the Geeklog community!
After using Geeklog for many years, I've decided to release my first theme! This one's called Stainless Raven, is based on the default Professional theme, and you can see a slightly modified version in action at http://www.retroreviews.net. The public-release version has its logo displayed in text rather than as a graphic, and there's an extra coolness on the right-hand side of the logo container.
Here's a screenshot:

Here's a RAR file with the theme inside:
http://www.retroreviews.net/stainless-raven.rar

Feedback is welcome - if you can figure out how to get bastard Internet bastard Explorer to display the "Continue" links properly, feel free to modify it and let me know.

So, how would one go about promoting this? Where does one typically submit a Geeklog theme?

Did you post it to gllabs.org? They seem heavy into theming these days.

(And your theme is not in a style I like so I really didn't give it more than a quick glance. Sorry.)

Aha. I shall give it a try - thanks!
As for the style - yeah, it's not for everyone. I just noticed there was a gap in the market for dark themes. Smile

I gave you a shout over at gllabs but thought it important to echo over here as well.

Hey CavemanJoe!

Awesome work dude! Love the site and the theme! It makes me want to dust off MAME and some ROMS I got lying around and have some fun pushing buttons with my son! Dark gloss is sweet, and I like the slanted background. It breaks up the area well and keeps my eye moving around the page.

Definitely upload it here and at geeklog.net! If Ironmax doesn't get to it before I have a chance, I'll add it to demo.geeklog.net sometime this weekend. If it ain't up there by next week, please shoot me a reminder. Big Grin

I'm also glad some more themes are emerging. Dewdoobrown, Bong over on geeklog.net, and yourself have made some wonderful contributions to the geeklog community. On behalf of everyone, thank you! Mark and I have been doing some interesting work lately (top secret, I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you! ), and are looking to expand on theme design. If you're interested, shoot one of us an email (this invitation is open to anyone as well).

One suggestion I would offer is to not package it as a .rar file. I've found .zip or .tar.gz are better choices to make sure it is natively openable on the widest array of systems. Great job on including a README btw, its important to not overlook the little details that matter. I am interested in checking out how you coded your search box Google-style "all of these words", and is http://www.stainless-design.co.uk you? Nice looking wooden layout there!

Keep up the good work and keep in touch!

Thx!

Eric

Thanks, Eric! Unfortunately I've come across a few NASTY bugs that need ironed out - lucky I didn't submit it to the downloads sections first.

I've done some research, and figured that if I'm going to fix these bugs, I have to create some new theme variables. However, I'd really like to be able to do this in the theme's functions.php file, rather than instructing people to make modifications to their lib-custom.php. Is there any way to create new theme variables entirely from within the theme folder itself?

Check out the top story on gl Labs right now. Chameleon runs off of a heavily modified functions.php file. That should give you some ideas. 8)

Thx!

Hmmm. Did you actually install the plugin, or just copy the theme into your layout folder? It looks like you aren't pulling all the CSS files properly (cause you need to have the plugin installed, not just the theme.)

Feel free to post any issues you have though at http://www.gllabs.org/forum/viewtopic.php?showtopic=6828

Thx!

Just a quick follow up for anyone, the issue was with a conflicting preferred style declaration in the Ratings plugin. Removing it resolves the issue, as referenced by Mark in this forum thread.

Thx!

That's really neat! It would be cool if you could offer various colors and/or designs where the flames are, with the same cut-out idea. I think it looks fantastic. Smile
Good job.
