I couldn't get Ban Plugin to ban using HTTP_REFERER.

The reason is ????.crawl.yahoo.net visits my site too many times a day using different crawlers each time.

I used:

crawl\.yahoo\.net
yahoo\.net
\*\.craw\.yahoo\.net
\?\.craw\.yahoo\.net

None of them worked.

Any idea?

I don't think any (legit) bot is sending referrers. Try blocking by IP addresses.

bye, Dirk

Hi Dirk,

I need some help with this. I think it used to work years ago when I used it.

I am getting hits coming from "p100.ezboard.com"

Using dnsstuff.com, I found it's IP to be 209.66.118.100

I ban it using "Remote_Addr" and filled in as "^209.66.118.100$"

But I am still getting hits from this annoying site.

What did I do wrong?

Sam,

You may want to verify that host again. I come up with

Text Formatted Code

Default Server:  node4.ns2.spacequad.com
Address:  192.168.0.250

> p100.ezboard.com
Server:  node4.ns2.spacequad.com
Address:  192.168.0.250

Non-authoritative answer:
Name:    p100.ezboard.com
Address:  208.87.216.234

However after I revarified the IP that you posted, it belongs to the same group at EZBoard.
If you want to just block that one IP of 208.87.216.234, then enter it on its own without any regex. If you want to block the entire block of IPs, then use this, I think it still works.

209.66.118.0/24
and this
208.87.216.0/21

It might be a tad bit over kill though.
