Remove view count

I'd like to be able to add my own hit counters/stats tracking stuff but can't figure out how to get rid of the views completely. I managed to disable their ability to update for a while, but never could figure out how to make them disappear.

Configuration > Stories and Trackback > Hide Views Count?

If that leaves whitespace in your theme, you would have to remove the variables {lang_views} and {story_hits} from the story template files.

Sorry. I'm using Geeklog 1.4.1. I haven't had the guts to try an upgrade yet.
