Announcements I was bored tonight so I put together a simple one page story importer. Just drop it into your admin directory and call it. It will import either text or html files. It can even import complete web pages, only importing what is between the body tags. You can turn off the regular Geeklog filters to allow any html in your stories. You can get it from my download page or here.

To go along with the story importer I also made a simple file uploader to upload the images to go along with your stories. Drop it in your admin directory -- set the default upload directory -- make sure your webserver can write to the directory and upload away. Available from my my download page or here.

Enjoy

Announcements One final update to the Local Weather Forecast add-on for Geeklog.

The content of More Local WX and 2 Day History are now wrapped inside Geeklog in the same way the extended forecast is wrapped. While the main forecast information is cached for set period of time, the cache has not been implemented yet for this material.

This will likely be the last update of this standalone version. Squatty will be incorporating this into his weather block.

The local weather forecast add-on files are available here.

Local Weather Forecast important fix

Announcements The Local Weather Forecast add-on that I created may have caused a database corruption problem I had on one of my sites.

I have changed the way the cached information is handled (added slashes to data) and I have not had a recurrence of the sql errors that I believe may have damaged my site's database.

Before I made this change I was getting sql errors when the data was stored in the cache. This did not happen every time. Just sometimes. But it seemed to happen more often with certain zip codes. (Perhaps caused by regional differences in the original html.)

I've also made some other changes that should make the HTML translation of the original NOAA material more tolerant of regional differences.

Because of the possible database corruption it is important to remove the old version of the index.php and replace it with the new one.

The original story about the weather forecast add-on is here.
