Hello guys Thanks to all those working in this cool project. I'm running my Intranet with Geeklog and would like to know if someone knows a nice plugin or an easy way to add an Instant Messagin service to the system. Thanks for your help!

For right now there's no easy way to add instant messaging. Private Messaging is most likely going to be in the next release of geekbook.

I just finished researching this vrey question. You cannot easily add a chat im directly to geek (yet, I'm sure). I was looking for some way to chat with my users without having thier browser locked to one page, and I found that you can run a service in addition to your website, but again I didnt want the downloading a seperate app just to pop in and say hello. I found it. if you can run Java on your machime check out http://www.visopsys.org/andy/babylon/applet-demo/index.html . It's a little on the ugly side, but I am sure that can eventually be overcome.

OK, it was much searching and painfull learning, but I managed to get a Java chat client for my site.... it requires a Java server to run on _the same site, with the same URL_ as your GL server, but it works without having to login a second time to the chat and relys on the GL access controlls. Also, it only allows one guest user to log into the chat at a time. If it were not for the sugestions block I would never have got it to work at all the way I wanted. So I owed it to GxBlocks.com to tell them first! How it was done: 1)get and install Babylonchat! http://www.visopsys.org/andy/babylon/index.html 2)get the submissions block and edit it till it cannot be recognized. (or email me for the edited code.) 3)install said ripped up code, bammo live real time chat. cons at this point.... 1)babylonchat works great but it is very ugly. 2)Parking messages for users currently offline might not work (not tested yet) 3)it's a JAVA server, and java is evil. for example: 4)the user must keep the resulting popup window open for the chat to work! pros at this point.... 1)live flipping chat and Im, with dynamic chatrooms and great controls 2)live real time white board. 3)it's optional to sign into the chat. 4)I did not need to die. 5)it works with GL Anyone wishing to improve on this is welcome to, and if desired I'll send the code to Gxblock.com for general posting. GL just plain rocks, I am not even offically "open" and already I am getting traffic! ........net victim: Wiki.
