Broken searching after GL upgrade

I've come across an odd problem, when attempting to do a search (either quick or advanced), my Geeklog site offers me this error:

1054: Unknown column 'date' in 'field list'

The error occurs whether or not a date is specified in the search. I haven't been able to find anything that seems to address this in stories here, but surely someone else is seeing the problem! I've checked for form POST operations that require multipart/form-data encoding but haven't found anything in the search*.thtml files that relies on this. I have to remove due to setting "file_uploads = off" in php.ini due to security vunerabilities.

I have upgraded the site from GL 1.3.1 to GL 1.3.5sr1 today, and the problem has occured after the upgrade. I've tested it with a number of themes, including XSilver, Clean, and my own themes, however the problem seems to occur with all of them. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to identify why the problem is occuring after glancing through the search.php code.

Any ideas?
