tables in a normal block

whenever i try sticking a little table in a normal block, i get a 4 inch solid white block above my table when viewed which makes for an unsightly geeklog.
Using gameserver theme if this has anything to do with it, and latest geeklog/php/mysql/apache on a linux server...
Any ideas?
