Geeklog as template for hosting multiple sites

Hello,

I run a gaming website using geeklog and am looking for a plugin/addon that might exist. Like I said, its a website for an online rpg and i want to be able to offer clans of the game free hosting within a specific directory in my web path.

Heres the tricky part: I want them to have the option of using the geeklog i currently have installed on the server, just with their own db and config file so that there arent a bunch of copies all over the server taking up much more space than needed.

Additionally, have a file manager built in so that they can modify the themes to their likeings.

Anyone have any ideas if this type of plugin exists? or if its even possible? Thanks in advance,

That kind of thing doesn't exist so far. But I guess it'd be possible to develop a script OUTSIDE of GL that'd run a basic GL install into a subdir. I'm also guessing that this sort of thing would be a massive project...

Well, when it comes to php, its something that im use to. Im totally up for taking on the task, I just wanted to know if anyone had heard of such a thing being done before.

I dont usually try to re-invent the wheel unless the code is crap.

Thanks for you help anyway.

Assuming you can associate a person with a clan and you have one DB per clan, you should be able to add code in lib-database.php (such as a switch statement) to select the right DB with little effort. The semi-tricky part is associating users with the right clan. The best way to do this, in my eyes, is either by creating a security group for each clan OR modify the account creation so they have to select their clan and save that clan to a new field in the database.
The reason people blame things on previous generations is that there's only one other choice.
