on my site the stories in "whats new block" point to my home page rather than the stories themselves.
can anybody shed light on this?

Sure, you can find it in COM_whatsNewBlock() in lib-common.php.
What are you going to change it to? I'd be interested to hear any suggestions since I have to agree that the link is a bit silly, especially on the front page of a site ...

Actually, I think he has a point. I am not putting all my latest stories on
the home page. I am planning on adding many reviews and such that
will end up in their appropriate categories.
I'd like the What's New Stories and Comments links to bring the user to a
page that lists the latest stories and comments according to date (most
recent first), and not to the Home page. By leaving the link the way it is,
it is acting incorrectly on my site. It says there are xxx many stories
within the last 24 hours, but then it points them to the home page where
they are not located. It seems kind of useless to me.
Is there any way, this can be modified to bring them to a page and list
them chronologically? How easy is this to do?
Thanks,
--Matthew

Changing the link is the easy part. The challenge is to point it to something sensible ...
The new comments / new links point (more or less) directly to the new element. But what should the new stories link point to? A page that lists links to the new stories? What if that page only has two links on it?
What may make sense is to create a special index page that has the new stories one after the other - just as on the normal index page, but only listing the new stories.
That shouldn't be too hard to do - most of the code is already there (in index.php and in the code for the What's New block). The SQL requests may need some massaging to take permissions into account properly ...

This was what I was thinking. If I were a coder, I'd take on that
challenge myself, but I know my limitations. Anyone else?

What about doing something like the Site Calendar block does?
I use it essentially for this purpose to see what's new today and get a list of all posting - stories, comments, links etc .. listed in latest to oldest for the selected date.

That would be cool, except that the Site Calendar only calls up items for
a particular day. This particular link would work well if, say, it would
bring up and list the last 10 or so stories, most recent on back,
regardless of when they were posted. Maybe that number of stories
could be adjustable in a plugin according to taste.
I love your Site Calendar Block, btw...

Dirk, I may be a little confused...but couldn't the new stories feature look just like the Older Stories block?
