I was wondering how i could make my geeklong site more "google friendly"...
As most of you already know, google wont index any of your stories, static pages, or even your other pages of articles, it will only index the first page...
I was looking for some advice as to how i'd optimize my site for indexing by google, any advice is appreciated.

That's not correct, Google indexes PHP pages just fine.
For example, when you do a search for "Geeklog MySQL", the first result is this story:
http://www.geeklog.net/article.php?story=20021018074436375

Dirk and tomw are right. Google is one of the few engines that can follow URL's with GET data in the URL string. We haven't looked into URL rewriting because there was a bug in PHP that would prevent this from working in windows (url rewriting is converting url's like http://example.com?foo to something like http://example.com/foo). When the new version of PHP comes out I will test this again but even if the bug is fixed, don't expect it too soon. It'll probably be a GL2 feature.---The reason people blame things on previous generations is that there's only one other choice.

Google has my side nearly completely in archives.Which comes out thereby only with the word DroidWars can one see here.
There not only the topics are specified but also those stats.php, userlist.php, search.php, pollbooth.php, calendar.php ... .
Other search words bring still more results, wanted to however only show the Geeklog very well are seized by search machines.
And does not only apply to google.

Ok, Sorry about that, I wonder what the reason is for google indexing my first page (page rank of 5) and no other pages.

It seems to me that Google will index the stories, occassionally comments, but never static pages for some odd reason. (I've searched throughout Google and never found a Geeklog site's staticpages indexed...feel free to prove me wrong if anyone can find exceptions). My workaround has been to create another PHP file with a simple name and have it just call 'include' on the staticpage's address. I then link directly to this file on my site. It's a bit of extra work, but resulted in those pages being indexed almost immediately after being ignored for months.

That could be caused by a number of reasons.
- Do you have a robot.txt file? If not, create one and tell the good bots what you want them to index and where to stay away from.
- Do you have metatags at the top of your page to describe your site and tell the bots what you want them to index? If not, create some but don't spam words there or they'll penalize you.
- Is anyone linking to your site? If not, try to get your site listed in different places so this will encourage bots to go visit again and from different locations.
- Have you set any rules in an .htaccess file? If so, check them to make sure you aren't too restrictive turning away the good bots with the bad.
- Lastly, have you checked your logs? That may give some clues on whether there was a net outage, your site went down temporarily when they visited, or there's something on your site they didn't like and turned away.

Hardly any search engines use the keywords from meta tags any more - too many people have misused them in the past. Google seems to use a meta tag description, though.
Having links point to your site is one of the most important things if you want to be listed on Google.
bye, Dirk
