Question on Flooding

Anonymous
One of the guys at my webhost runs a couple php message boards, one of which is fudforum. His site was unexpectedly attacked last night. The culprit ran a flooding script which sent several hundred posts a minute trying to overload his mysql database. The script changed names and ips at every post. He was able to successfully ban the guy but ended up taking both boards down.
This got me thinking about Geeklog's ability to handle flooding and whether anyone has ever had any problems in this particular area. In config.php, there's a speedlimit which regulates the core program processes but are plugins like the new message board forum also including such a feature? Is there any setting we can enable to limit total submissions from one person in a certain time period?
There's probably no fool proof way to stop a malicious person. I don't see the morphing of names and IPs being a problem at all for GL. I just want to make sure my database doesn't crash from overloading by such a jerk while I'm sleeping. )

just turn anon posting off and pick a good comment speedlimit for your site. all this can be done on the config file!
Geeklog just rocks.

You are right, plugins would be an issue. It would be up to the plugin author to implement any special speed limits. If they implement the comment API then their plugin's comments will already work. It's only if they have custom stuff (which many do) that you have to worry. Good issue to post to the geeklog-modules lists.---The reason people blame things on previous generations is that there's only one other choice.
