Recurring events

Is there a way to add a recurring event to a calendar? We have an event every Friday, and it would be nice not to have to reenter it for every week.
Thanks,

Nope, unfortunately this isn't supported right now. I'd verify that this feature is added to our feature tracker so we have it captured (it may already be there).---The reason people blame things on previous generations is that there's only one other choice.

Just bumping this topic a little and get maybe any of the "plugin" gurus excited about it ...
From this topic this answer is still no
but if you consider recurring events I see basicly 4 categories.
1. Yearly events like birthdays (the one I am most interested in)
2. Recurring every certain weekday untill a certain end day. (e.g. every friday we have a party during the summer months)
3. Recurring every month on the first thursday (e.g. a team meeting)
4. The more advanced calendar stuff you can do in like e.g. Outlook.
Looking at option 1 for like birthdays, and stuff a simple hack of one additional table field using the flag option would be sufficient.
You enter a startdate and it will occur every year on that day, basicly ignoring the year field.
Option 2 and 3 is a little bit more complicated but would surely interest a larger group of people.
Option 4 would be a full featured new plugin and maybe complete out of scope, so let´s ignore that for now.
I did a search and found a quick and dirty fix of Vinny dated 2003 here but or I bluntly overlooked something or the recurring events are in the freezer ...
Anyone a on the matter ?

Recurring events can be a real challenge to implement, especially if you allow exceptions (e.g. you have a recurring event for the third Tuesday of every month but then want to move one of those events to the second Tuesday).
I don't think anyone is currently working on calendar improvements. But someone is working on making the calendar a plugin, so that it would be easier to replace.
Given the past history of attempts to extend / replace the calendar, I'm going to wait how (and if) it comes out before commenting ...
bye, Dirk

Hi,
Does anyone know how to get the birthdays in the calendar to occur every year on the same date?
What is the actually point of the different type of events, is there some functional difference between them?
Thanks,
Shane
Those who say it can't be done, are usually interrupted by others doing it.

You enter them yourself each year. See also, this thread and the threads pointed to inside it.Hi,

There have absolutely no functional meaning. The list of event types is just an array in your calendar plugin's config.php.

you can also try the evList event list plugin. It supports recurring events and categories. It doesn't have the big calendar page tho, just a nicely formatted list, thus 'event list'.
