Databse backup from within Geeklog doesn't work!

I posted this question before and believe it or not the only answers I got back was "yeah it doesn't work for me either" or "it didn't work for me so I just use phpMyAdmin..." My question is why doesn't the backup utility work from within my Geeklog site? I know its setup correctly because everything on my Geeklog site works flawlessly... and when I launch the backup utility my firewall ask if I would like to launch the Windows Command Processor launched by PHP Script Interpreter... But the backup always fails... I dont understand so I changed the database backup link from relative to absolute to relative with foreward and backslashes on Windows but I can never backup on my Windows machine... Whats gives? Is this an official bug? I Love Geeklog and just don't want ot go crazy Neutral

So what's the error you get? I only learned the other day that if you get a "backup has 0 bytes" message, then you should have a look whether safe_mode is on for your PHP install, and if it is, then you should switch it off (or ask your hosting service to do it for you). bye, Dirk

Safe Mode is off... I love Geeklog and tried messing with the config (not lib common) but no matter how I put the address to backup (single slash, double slash, relative or absolute) I can launch the backup utilitie but the database just doesn't backup... I know how to use phpMyAdmin but it just urks me I can't do it with Geeklog... Anybody solve this one after havign trouble with it? Anyone have an idea?

I'm working on a hack to the database.php file to give folks like you who are experiencing this problem an alternative way to backup your database right inside GL. It basically has the same functionality as is in phpmyadmin export. Plus there will be a choice of automatically breaking your database into multiple files of a desired max size or by table. I'll be asking probably next week for some volunteers on Windows servers to help beta test it. You're more than welcome to be one.

I'll beta test! The backups worked once or twice for me then just stopped working. I've been using sqlyog to do it since then. I get some Fork message, which I think is a *nix type message. I just never figured out a work around. ---Paul 'T1Pimp' http://www.Huggybeer.com - Embrace your inner geek

That's fine. I run on Linux, and it's working great for me. *nix people can beta test it too. Just wanted to get a couple on other operating systems especially Windows since they seem to have the most problems with the current backup.
