Is there a way to make it so that Journals (even though they are public) are only viewable if you are logged in?

Not a true solution in the most strict sence of the word, but here's what I did: I wanted some members of my site to have access to online journals and the contact plugin, while other do not have access to these. The first step was to remove any public links to the Journal Section. I then created a new group called "exclusive" (you could call it anything you wanted), and set specific people to be a member of that group. Next, I created an "Exclusive Members" block that had read access only to the exclusive group. Inside that block is where I placed links to both the journals and contacts plugins. I also use the Recent Journals block, which is also now set to read only to the exclusives group. I hope this helps you accomplish your goal! :-)

I actually just put the code for the External Plugin in to the index.php and that worked just fine.
