I'm trying to install the GL Forum plugin on my test box, and the installation process failed, which woke me up to a problem. I was doing the forum install as my main user, which has root privileges. However, the plugin would not install. No error messages on screen, but the error log showed:
Fri Feb 14 21:13:18 2003 - Someone has tried to illegally access the forum install/uninstall page. User id: , Username: , IP:
So, I selected Users from the Admin menu. But, if I click on a User Name, to check the groups that my main user is assigned to, nothing happens. No error messages on screen, no entries in error.log. Same problem if I log in as the Admin user.
I took a look at the gl_users, gl_groups and gl_group_assignments tables in phpMyAdmin, and compared them to the tables on my production site, which will allow me to edit users. I can't see any obvious differences between the tables on the two sites.
So, can anyone suggest where I should look to allow me to check and edit user groups? Once I get that working, I'll take any problems with the Forum to Blaine's site.
Thanks

The "web based" install of plugins from the Admin's list of plugins causes this message in the error.log when it checks the availabilty of the install script. In other words: Every time you access the list of plugins and you have uninstalled plugins in your system, such an error message will be recorded for each plugin that is not installed yet.
This is normal and shouldn't have anything to do with any actual install problems that you may encounter.
bye, Dirk

Dirk,
Thanks for the info on the error message. I still haven't figured out why I can't edit user group settings on my test site. I eventually broke down and loaded the forum straight onto my production site. Now I have to do a bunch of trial and error to sort out the style sheet the way I want.
This would be a lot smoother if I could get my test site working properly again. Maybe I'll have to blow the whole thing away and repopulate the test site from a tarball and mysqldump from my production site.
Thanks,
Kevin---Kevin

Well, convinced that something was wrong with either the database, or the other GL files on my test box, I blew the whole thing away and recreated them from a database dump and tarball from my production box. The problem was still there I couldn't edit users, and the forum wasn't working properly.
So, I finally work up and checked out php settings via phpinfo() . I discovered that register_globals was OFF. A bit more digging, and I found that my php.ini file hadn't survived my most recent OS update. So, as soon as I had a php.ini file that set register_globals to ON, and restarted apache, my test site started working properly again. ---Kevin
