1064 SQL Errors

I was stupid enough to forget to comment out a ' when I made a topic name. The result was an error starting with
1064: You have an error in your SQL syntax
While there are some other errors that start with this, if you've just made a topic name with something non-alphanumeric in it, this might be you

After getting the error I went back and tried to escape the offending ' to '. What I did was manage to create two topics, one escaped with a ' and one lacking the '. The second time I pushed save I thought I was editing, but really I was making a new topic.

My solution was to fire up PHPMyAdmin and delete the offending topics from the database, then make a new one with the escaped '. Give this a try if you're in the same boat.

As an aside to the developers, it might be a good idea to change the "don't include spaces in the topic name" note to "don't include punctuation or spaces in the topic name" with an addendum to newbie geeks about escaping stuff. It would also be good that if the newbie non-geek user did include forbidden things that the error was checked for before the topic was created. Just a thought ;-)

PS Did I mention that Geeklog rocks? It does!

Actually, you should be able to use single quotes in the topic NAME, just not in the topic ID. bye, Dirk
