when i use echo COM_startBLOCK()how do i edit the width of it.. cause it shows really wide

COM_startBLOCK's width adjusts to whatever you place it in. If you're page has left and right blocks, blocks on one side only, or no blocks at all, it will always fill up the remaining space. It appears narrower in the former case and wider in the latter. If you want it to be a certain width then place it inside a table or div and set the width that way.
