Hi, I just moved my geeklog site from my local webserver to eryxma.com, a web hosing service. The site is now running properly, but I have lost my stories and topics I had on the old site. How do I backup everything from the old site and now move it to the the new one? Thanks a lot, Christopher Kiernan

You need to export your existing database tables and import them in. Your new service provider hopefully has a mysql admin tool available such as phpmyadmin You should have been able to have restored your existing database completely then installed the geeklog application, updated the config.php and lib-common for your new site and you should have been back live. You could also use the script mentioned here, first backup your local db and then dump the two files on your new site and execute the backup file. You will have all your content on the new site.
ONE THING Your new db must have the same name as your old one or you can rename it. Also remember to enter correct variables to makebackup.php. Hope that helps.
Still phpMyAdmin is the best :-)

Firstly, can an administartor move this post to the help category as I chose the wrong one one when posting. Secondly, my new webhosting provider does have a tool for me to restore an old mysql database, but I mainly need to know how to backup the database on my local machine. Unfortunately the link the referenced article somebody mentioned here, is broken, so can somebody give me instructions as to how to backup my geeklog site that is currently sitting on my local machine. Thanks a lot, Christopher Kiernan

The original site i want to backup is located on my local machine so I suppose I do have access to the command line. In terms of the new site, to which i want to nove the data to: I only have acces to phpmyadmin as well as a mysql restore utility. Chris Kiernan

Ok, I looked at the mysql database and realized I just want to replace the gl_stories table as opposed to the whole databse as that may become complicated in terms of database names. As a recap, my situation is as follows: I have complete control over the mysql database located on my computer from which I want to extract gl_stories. The only real access I have to the mysql database located on the webserver, to which I want to replace gl_stories, is through phpmyadmin. Now, is it possible for me to move the table gl_stories, from my local machine, to the webserver using the tools and access I have to both mysql databases (as mentioned above) , and if so, can somebody please post step by step instructions. Thanks a lot, Chris Kiernan
