Newbie Windows Help!! PLEASE HELP

I am attempting to load geeklog on a windows 2000 server that I run out of my house with iis. I have downloaded php and mysql. I am not familiar with php or mysql, but I understand html and paths. I was wondering if anyone has full instructions start to finish for installing and configuring php, mysql as it is needed for geeklog along with some more in depth instructions for geeklog itself. I know this is a tall order but if anyone has this I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance!!

Goto php.net and download the php windows installer. When you goto install, just accept the defaults. PHP is now installed.

Next you need to install mysql, again just accept the defaults. After it is installed you will need to goto the mysql/bin directory and run winmysqladmin.exe. When you run it, it will show an icon in your sys tray (next to your clock). Open it up and it should show that it is running. You might need to create a file called "my.ini" and save it in c:winnt . The program looks for this file for config info. When you install mysql you'll see a message on how to set this ini file up. Just change your paths accordingly to what you actually have.

Next you need to download PHPMyadmin. You don't actually "install" this utility, you just download it and unzip to your /inetpub/wwwroot/ directory. You need to rename that directory that you extract to whatever you like ( phpmyadmin maybe???). Then if you IIS site is running goto http://127.0.0.1/phpmyadmin/ and so long as mysql is up and running you should see a PHPMyadmin page. You'll need to change some parameters.

That should get you up and going. I'm putting some detailed doco for windows users together at my site php2tor.com within the next few days. The only other thing to consider is security. I didn't tell you how to do that part of it so make sure your IIS is secure and updated. Even tho your running at home, if you ever connect it to the internet, it WILL, get hacked.

Will the latest versions of PHP and MySql be good? I have read on the documentation that PHP 4.04 and MySql 3.22 are the latest supported by geeklog. I think PHP is up to 4.31 and MySql 4.0. (I'm sure you already know this) Will these versions be ok? Thanks in advance!

Err, I suggest you read that again. PHP 4.0.4 and MySQL 3.22 are the minimum requirements (actually, Geeklog 1.3.7sr1 has some problems with MySQL versions older than 3.23.2). Get PHP 4.3.1 and MySQL 3.23.56 and you should be fine (and don't forget to set register_globals=on). bye, Dirk

I would reccommend going to Abriasoft website and download thier merlin server package. This free download consists of PHP MySQL, Perl and will install for Apache or IIS. I've used it to do the last 3 installs of my athome server. It has pretty decent documentation, so check there for help. hope this helps
