Sorry, I still don't understand your problem. Of course you can simply edit the images from one of the existing themes - why not? Or you can add new images - as many as you want. All you need is a little knowledge of HTML. For example, the template file blockheader.thtml specifies how the head of a block should look like. So if you want images there, simply add <img> tags ... Hope that helps. bye, Dirk

I think a really easy way to start off, is to take all the images form the theme you like best import them into photoshop or whatever and edit them..that's a piece of cake... i've seen lazy people going just as far as to change the alpha of all the images... and call it "their" theme Smile

hmm so you are saying is that .. header.thtml holds the theme images... like as in table backgrounds..? cause see im a bit confused cause when you add.. com_startblock() it adds a bg from your current theme... how does that work.. cause i can change the images.. but.. will com_startblock() still work with the new images

A theme is multiple html pages that are chopped up into smaller pieces so that code can applied to each to make the dynamic content. The templates work in the same way as a regular html page. Table backgrounds and colors can be added either through stylesheets or inside the tag. Most of the default themes which come with GL have these inside the tags. If you modify the appearance in header.thtml, just like a regular html page it will not affect the appearance elsewhere unless you apply a style globally to a particular tag inside a stylesheet. com_startblock() gets its appearance from the blockheader.thtml template not from header.thtml.
