WinZip won't open geeklog-1.3.7sr1.tar.gz.tar

I downloaded geeklog-1.3.7sr1.tar.gz.tar into my Windows XP system and since Windows won't deal with it using its native unzipper, I installed Winzip v8.1 to try to open it.
Winzip reports: "Error reading header after processing 0 entries."
Any way this can be opened on a Windows XP system? I can extract it on my Unix host if I have to, but generally I never telnet to it, just FTP.

You shouldn't use WinZip anyway since at least some versions are known to corrupt files during extraction.
Try WinRar. And I'm sure there are other programs for Windows that can handle .tar.gz files.

Get rid of the last .tar extension and winzip will have no problem. I'v been using winzip 8.1 with no problems.
