Unable to move a submission to a topic

Well, not entirely true. I can move a submission to a Topic, but I cannot edit the submission first and then move it to a topic. It moves it over to the stories section.

At first, I was not able to edit at all, and then followed your advice by omitting the enctype="multipart/form-data" from storyeditor.thtml. This solved the part of my editing issues.

Also, if I approve a submission, it does move it to the specified topic; but I cannot go back in and edit it to move it to another topic. To summarize, whenever I try to edit (under my admin account) a story already residing in the topic section, it will bump it back down to stories.

I'm wondering if this has something to do with this:

You still have not changed some default Admin password from "password". This will allow people to do serious harm to your site! --I get this message under my admin account and am positive this account has been deleted. (I've even tried to log on with it to test it)

Another note, I cannot submit stories under my admin account. It will not allow me to approve it and move it to the appropriate topic. (It will throw it over to stories again) -- What I did was take my original admin account and created another with a different name and then bumped my original account back down to 'All User' status. Now I can submit stories, then log on under the new Admin account and approve them.

Any suggestions? Thanks for your time, and I love this Geeklog. ,)

Okay, I think there's a slight misunderstanding here on how Geeklog works. Per default, Geeklog is set up such that posts from "normal" users will go to a submission queue and will have to be approved by an Admin. There are two ways to approve a post: By checking "Approve" from the moderation page and by editing and saving the story. So when you (as an Admin) try to edit a submission and save it, it is automatically taken out of the submission queue and saved as a story. That probably explains most of your problems. If you don't want a story to be published immediately, use the "draft" checkbox. Now, when the Admin (or any other user with Story Admin permissions) posts a story, it will NOT go to the submission queue but will be published immediately. Again, the solution here would be to use the "draft" flag. The warning message about not having changed all passwords refers to the two default accounts that are set up when you install Geeklog: "Admin" and "Moderator". The password for both of these accounts is "password" and this box is there to remind you to change BOTH of them. Hope that helps. bye, Dirk

Thank you for the speedy response. Actually, there's an issue with my story admin tag, I think. Whenever I submit a story as story admin (and let's say I flag this for GENERAL NEWS)it will not move it to the appropriate section, it will only move it to stories. It displays marked for the appropriate section under topic, when I click on the STORIES link. This happens anytime a story admin or the main admin submits a story. The only time I am able to move a story to the appropriate section, is when a normal user (not marked as story admin) submits a story and a story moderator goes in and approves it. Also, the only way I can edit a story is if I go in through my geeklog database and edit it there. If I edited it under a story admin or main administrator, it knocks it back to stories and will never let me place it back under the appropriate section- this is after it's already been approved and posted under the topic selected. Am I not understanding how this works? The submitted stories are supposed to show up under the chosen topics, correct? I appreciate your time.

Hmm, that sounds like you may have a problem with the (Story) Admin editor. Have a look at the FAQ under "I can't edit or create stories". Does any of the things listed there apply (or help)?

Also, which theme are you using? If you're using a theme other than the ones that ship with Geeklog - does it work with one of the standard themes?

bye, Dirk

Hi there. Yes, I'm using the gameserver theme; and I removed the enctype="multipart/form-data" from the storyeditor.thtml file. I couldn't edit at all before that. This is my addy for geeklog: Geeklog And I'm really wanting to move away from my forums: The Veil Forum
Thanks again.

An update! I reinstalled Geeklog and now with the omition of the enctype="multipart/form-data" line, I'm able to edit and submit under root users. I have to roll the time back also, to do this. The time displayed is in GMT time and I am on EST time. So, if I roll this back seven hours, the story will display immediately. But now, if I give a user story admin access, they are not able to submit stories. Only root users can submit stories. I want to eventually convert my WHOLE site over to geeklog, but would like to find a way to resolve my issues first. I simply cannot give all my story editors root access. Any advice you can give me would be appreciated. Thanks so much!

Geeklog will always use the server's local time. There's a time zone hack available, but that doesn't seem to solve all the problems, from what I've heard. Are you ahead or behind your webserver's time? Geeklog will let you write stories to be published in the future (e.g. when you're away). These stories will not show up on the front page until their publication date/time has been reached. Maybe that explains some of the effects you're seeing? What problems are your story admins facing? What exactly is happening when they are posting stories? bye, Dirk

Sorry - this is the message story admins are getting: Sorry, you do not have access to the story administration page. Please note that all attempts to access unauthorized features are logged ---------------------------------------------------------------------- I used the time zone hack and it worked great. Then a few hours later, (it may not be related) geeklog was acting buggy. I was able to log in, but would still see the login box, but was not able to access any of my controls. Thanks, L.

okay - really embarassed! I found out why my story admins can't post.. I had to give the topic edit status for users. Very sorry about that. All we have to do is roll back the submission times!
