Single User Mode?

I would like to know if there is a way I can set Geeklog to allow only one user to post anything other than comments to stories. I was looking for a simple blog for a travelblog I am doing.

I want to include pictures. etc. (I plan to install Gallery - unless someone can recommend another hack - there's the 4images I've seen mentioned, and something called Geekary which I cannot find a link to).

Appreciate any help and input!

You can edit one or more files to remove the link that is used for viewers to submit stories, as I did on my site. Depending on which theme you are using you may need to edit header.thtml (in the theme files) or lib-common.php (if I recall correctly).---Kevin

Thanks for the link. What exactly does Geekary do? I didn't see any kind of explanation. And what are the main differences between Geekary, 4images, and Gallery? anyone care to enlighten me?? Thanks!

How would I then add a story, if the link is gone? I'm still checking out all of the bells and whistles, so I apologize if my question has an obvious answer!

As the Admin, go to "Stories" (in your Admin menu) and click on "New Story" ... bye, Dirk

The Geekary is an image gallery plugin written for Geeklog, while Gallery and 4images are "third-party products" for which a Geeklog wrapper exists. A fourth solution is Mig, that can also be integrated into Geeklog.

Only you can tell which solution is the best for your needs - compare their feature lists and see for yourself ...

Okay, I downloaded Geekary, and cannot find a file that lists the features. Nor can I find anything on this site that lists features of Geekary.

I have seen Gallery and 4images in action. Haven't checked out mig yet, but would appreciate anyone who's dealt with one or more of these to tell me of their experiences . .. .

Thank you - I was doing a search on Geeklog instead of on BoL's site. This might be all I need. I'm not trying to do anything TOO sophisticated. I'll give it a try before I go to Gallery or somesuch.

I have used Geekary but found it a bit confusing and unsuited for my *very* non-tech users. They could never navigate the complex of folders etc. I also had a few problems with bugs. 4images is a bit tedious to install/integrate with numerous manual edits to various files but actually not at all difficult if you follow the instructions. (Plug: I used the "fish://" protocol in Konqueror to access and edit the files on the server - combined ssh/scp etc). And 4images is very userfriendly. Look around for themes suitable for Geeklog. I chose 4images over Gallery for the ImageMagick thumbnail generation. The Random Image block for 4images is very good. /Jens

Thanks for your 2 cents, Jens. I installed Geekary, and got it working fine, but there were a few features I wanted that Gallery had. I hadn't really taken a good look at 4images, but Gallery can use ImageMagick (if I can get the server configured correctly Smile. I DO like the thumbnail generator, and being able to pick out a certain part of the image for the thumbnail. I played with Gallery at opensourcecms.com, and was impressed (the other thing I really wanted was to be able to navigate between large photos, which Geekary doesn't do). Thanks to the person on one of these threads who clued me in to the site! Much better way to evaluate than checking out the demo pages on sourceforge! I may take a closer look at 4images as well.
