Search through the stories here. When someone releases a new plugin, there's usually a link to it in the story.

Block: Customized site feature or add-on that is placed into lib-custom.php. It's added via the Block Mgmt and enabled by the site admin - as type phpblock. They are designed to be appear in the left or right side of your site.
Plugin: Geeklog Extension that uses the PLUGIN-API library. Extends core GL features and is integrated into the site Admin features, uses Plugin install and can be enabled or disabled, integrated into search results and can optionally be integrated with the comment engine or other GL components/blocks.
Custom Module: Geeklog extension that adds functionality and may intergrate and use GL core components but does not use the PLUGIN-API. Usually requires more hacking and modifications to install
