I've wrestled with this plugin for a few hours. I grabbed the changes for 1.3.7 and found a few other bugs that I've fixed. I intend on releasing a full 1.3.7 friendly zip file within the next couple of days. If you're interested in getting this, let me know so I can add you to the list of people to inform when I'm done.
On the other hand, if somebody else is already doing this or has already done this, let me know so I can shoot my bug fixes to you.

If you are working on the Journal Plugin, you might want to think of making a change or addition at the same time.
Currently each Journal entry has its own page. This is tedious when trying to look through a Journal. What would be nice is a view so that all entries from a Journal would show up on the same page so that you can read a Journal as you would a blog or a story. This would also be great for printing purposes. My users would use this view as the default if it were available.
