As of Geeklog 1.3.8, plugins can place blocks in the center area. The version of the forum that is installed here (and which is not available for download yet) makes use of that new functionality.
So, technically, it\'s not a hack but a preview of upcoming features. Blaine also has a tutorial on how to retrofit center blocks into an older version of Geeklog somewhere on his site.
