Hey Dirk ... Tom... and rest of the GeekLog Wizards, Well ... I\'ve installed my first GeekLog site ... 10 days ago .. added few plugins and everything\'s running fine with no problem Big Grin But, I am not sure how to back up my database in case my hosting server goes down or in any other case. I would like to have BACK UP for every thing .... so I can run the site from another hosting immediately if for any reason my present server goes down. Thank you very much Smile for your time.

Err, there\'s this nice DB Backup entry in your Admin menu - why not use that? Or, if you have phpMyAdmin installed - that, too, can do database backups. bye, Dirk

Dirk...
Thanks..
But the following are the Options I have under the ADMIN ONLY block:

Submissions (0) Stories (2) Blocks (18) Topics (6) Links (147) Events (3) Polls (1) Users (34) Groups (20) Mail Users (N/A) Plugins (5) Static Pages (19) Forum (16) Chatterblock Admin (1) Visitor Stats (N/A) External Pages (1) GL Version Test (N/A)

Have I done something wrong when I installed the GEEKLOG which is making the DB BACKUP not visible to the menu?? Even under the ADMIN home I don\'t see anything like DB BACKUP

Unfortunately I don\'t have the phpADMIN installed... Frown

Really apreciate your help

Thanks

You must have switched it off then. There's an option for it in config.php:
Text Formatted Code
// optional settings for making database backups from within Geeklog
$_CONF['allow_mysqldump']   = 1;      // 1 = on, 0 = off
$_DB_mysqldump_path         = '/usr/bin/mysqldump'; // path to mysqldump binary
You need to know where the mysqldump utility is - it's usually in the /usr/bin/mysqldump (that's the default) or /usr/local/bin/mysqldump. If in doubt, contact your hosting service. bye, Dirk

Thanks Dirk, Yes.. you are right .. unfortunately I turned the DB BACKUP off Angry well .. now this is the case... I turned it back on. and uploaded the modified CONFIG.php, I saw the DB BACKUP button, when I clicked it said \"public_html/backups\" not accessible. Please note there was no folder called \"backups\". So I created one, and CHMOD it to 777. Then I saw the following: No backups in the system To create a new backup of your Geeklog system, hit the button below [ DO BACKUPS ] After I clicked DO BACKUPS I saw the following: Backup Failed: Filesize was 0 bytes I am kinda confused where to go from here .. Frown Would you please help me. Thanks

Ah, that problem again ... Rolling Eyes I\'m afraid I don\'t really have a solution for that one. My current theory is that there\'s a conflict in permissions between your webserver and PHP on the one hand and MySQL / mysqldump on the other hand. My suggestion would be to contact your hosting service and ask them for help. Specifically, ask them if a PHP script can call mysqldump to make a backup of your MySQL database or if they can recommend anything to make this work. bye, Dirk

I had a mean problem once not being able to back up on Windows but after one step it all started to back up just fine through Geeklog. I had spaces in the directory names but when I suppressed all spaces the DB function worked perfectly... Glad I saw it Smile
